Becoming a member of BEST

  • What are the requirements for becoming a member of BEST?

Everyone who is a student of University of Novi Sad can become a member of our local BEST group.

  • How can I join BEST?

If you are a student of University of Novi Sad you can fill in the application after which you will get a notification about time and place of our welcoming meeting for new members. In the meantime you can always join us on our weekly meetings. If you wish to be informed about our ongoing or upcoming projects you can follow our Facebook or Instagram page.

  • Where and how frequently are meetings being organized?

Our meeting are taking place every week in the building of Department for mathematics and informatics, on the third floor, in the classroom 63.

  • Why should I join BEST?

You will have a chance to learn how to work in a team, to improve your organization skills, you will acquire experience in writing and managing projects, as well as many other knowledge and skills.

  • Is there a fee for members?

No, there is no fee. The only thing you need to bring to our meeting are a good will and a huge smile.

 

BEST Courses

  • What are BEST courses?

    BEST courses are internationally recognized academic seminars which are being organized in cooperation with local BEST group and professors from one of 97 universities all around Europe. By participating in BEST courses you will receive complementary education, specialization from one of relevant areas and expand your aspects in areas that you have not studied in detail at the faculty.
    The courses represent a combination of lectures and visits to companies / laboratories / factories as well as cultural activities.
    Course topics are in the field of technology, technology and natural sciences, but also on the topic of start-up programs. In addition to the knowledge you will get at courses, you will get many acquaintances across Europe, have a good time and get to know the beauty and cultures of other nations and host country.

  • Is the certificate received after attending the course?

    After successful completion of the final exam, the participant receives a certificate. This final exam can be in the form of group work, performing a given exercise or assignments by a professor of written test or project presentation.

  • How much does it cost to participate in the BEST course?

    After confirming that you have been accepted to some of the BEST courses, you will need to pay a deposit of 20 euros to the local BEST group (in this case BEST Novi Sad). The deposit is a guarantee that you will really go to the course. After attending the course and completing an evaluation on the BEST website, the deposit will be returned in full.

    Participation fee, which students can see on the website at the time of registration, for students of the University of Novi Sad is 20% of the total figure shown. To participants in the courses food and accommodation are provided by the organizers, and you only have to organize a transfer to the city in which the course is held.

  • How many students can be accepted to the course?

    At each of the courses there will be 20-22 participants from different countries of Europe.

  • Do I have to be a BEST member to apply for a BEST course?

    It is not necessary to be a member of the local BEST group to register and participate in the course.

  • What are the conditions for applying for a course?

    The only condition for applying is that you are a student at the University of Novi Sad and belong to one of the relevant categories for courses.

  • In order to register at some of the courses, is it necessary for the topic of the course to be from the field of my studies?

    It is not necessary if the course for which you are apply is basic. If you are applying for some of the advanced courses, then it is necessary to possess a certain knowledge in this field, which are listed in the description of the course.

  • How to apply for a course?

    You can sign up for the course in the following way:

    Step 1: You need to create a profile on the website of the international BEST .

    Step 2: From list of offered courses select the course you want to apply for.

    Step 3: Using the Apply Now button, you are coming to the page where you need to, in English, write a motivation letter and answer on the asked questions.

  • How do I validate my account?

    Your account is going to be validated after the deadline for applying for courses. For the validation of your account, your student book is needed for the purpose of confirming that you are really a student of the University of Novi Sad. Our coordinator for BEST courses will notify you by email for all that is required.

  • How do I write a motivation letter?

    The motivation letter should be informal. It is important to show interest in the academic part of the seminar, but also its fun part. Keep in mind that organizers receive a large number of motivational letters and what you want is to separate yours from others. Assure them that you are the person they need. You can find many useful tips on our workshop forwriting motivational letters, but also see examples of good and bad motivational letters.

  • Based on what is the selection of participants?

    The selection of participants is based on the quality of motivational letters and answered questions, both professional and humorous. Also, when selecting participants, organizers take into account that it is desirable for participants to be from as many different countries as possible, so that participants can get to know as many cultures of different nations as possible during the course.

  • Is it necessary for me to possess a certificate of English language proficiency?

    You do not need to have a certificate in English, but you need to have sufficient knowledge, because all teaching and communication with professors, participants and organizers will be in English.

  • How many courses can I apply per a season?

    During one season, you can apply for maximum 3 courses. If you apply for that number of courses, you need to rank them by relevance in relation to which one you most want to participate in.

  • What happens if I am not selected for the participant?

    Unless you are selected for the participant, do not give up! You can apply for some of the courses you are interested in next season. You can also attend our workshops for writing motivational letters and ask us for advice in order to improve your motivational letter for the BEST course.

  • How can I find out more about the courses themselves?

    Every season, we organize workshops where you can ask us about everything you are interested in about courses and learn tips & tricks for applying for courses, what to expect on courses and some other interesting things. You will also have the opportunity to hear the personal experiences of students who have attended BEST courses.

BEST and career development

  • What skills can I acquire in the BEST?

    Students who are members of our organization through team work participate in the realization of various projects such as organizing academic courses, engineering competitions or various workshops. With active participation in the work of our organization, students have the opportunity to improve and acquire some skills they may not have had the opportunity to do before. Also, as an international organization, our members have the opportunity to meet students from different European cities and work in a multicultural environment.

  • What is the purpose of the certificate from the courses?

    The certificate from the course has a certain number of ESPB points, but the University of Novi Sad, unfortunately, still does not recognize these points. It's a valid certificate from one of the European universities, and you can attach it to your CV, which can separate you tomorrow from other job candidates.

  • What is BEST Career Support?

    BEST Career Support is an online service that links students with companies. By leaving your CV on the website of the international BEST, you get the opportunity to be contacted by a potential employer.

  • What is BEST Career Day?

    BEST Career Day is a major employment fair held annually in Brussels, Belgium. It provides students with the opportunity to get in touch with a prospective employer, leave their CV, have an interview for the job, and attend numerous workshops they organize.

  • How can I apply to participate in the BEST Career Day?

    You can apply for BEST Career Day once a year when a call for application is opened. The application is usually opened at the beginning of the year and you can find it on the international BEST website.

EBEC

  • What is EBEC?

EBEC (European BEST Engineering Competition) is a student engineering competition consisting of three rounds: local, regional and final round. The winners of each round continue the competition in the next round. More about the competition and the local round in Novi Sad, you can find out on ebec.rs  or on the Facebook project page.

  • What are the categories in the competition?

The categories of the competition are Team Design and Case Study. In the team design category, competitors will receive a limited amount of materials and a problem to solve. From the offered materials they should build a solution. The case study involves finding an innovative and practical solution to the problem, but does not involve the creation or construction, only the oral presentation of the same.

  • Who can participate?

Students can apply for the competition in all years of their studies on the University of Novi Sad, but the primary group consists of students from the Faculty of Technical Sciences, Faculty of Sciences, Faculty of Technology and Faculty of Agriculture.

  • Do I need any specific knowledge or skills to participate in the competition?

No, only good will and positive energy are needed.

  • What about teams? Do I have to have a team to register?

One team consists of exactly 4 students. You can sign up for the competition with your team, but also yourself. In case you sign up alone or with a team that has less than 4 members, after selecting, we will notify you who are all members of your team.

  • Do I have to participate in both categories?

No, on the contrary, one team can only participate in one category.

  • Can I apply for both categories?

Yes, you can apply for both categories, but you can not be selected for both, but only for one.

  • How are the competitors selected?

Competitors are selected based on the answers to the questions in the application and attached CV.

  • I’m not sure if I can participate, do I apply for each case?

Registration to the competition obliges you to participate in the competition.

If, however, at any time after registration, you find that you will not be able to participate, please contact us as soon as possible by contacting one of the organizers (whose contacts you can find here) or by contacting the form on our main site.

  • Do I have to be a BEST member to sign up?

No, BEST members are not allowed to participate in the competition.

  • Can I become a member of the BEST after the competition?

Yes, after the competition will be held a recruitment period, when you can become our member. You can find more information about the work of our group on our Facebook page or on our site.

  • Is there a fee for participation?

No, participation in the competition is free.

  • Who can all attend workshops that take place within the event?

All the students of the University of Novi Sad can apply to the workshops, regardless of whether they applied for the competition.
